Every time a heart-wrenching display of violence in the schools or an appalling act of childhood aggression achieves its "15 minutes of fame" in the media, we all shake our heads in dismay, despair over what should have been done and feel deeply grateful that it happened somewhere else. But, of course, there's no guarantee. These things can and do happen anywhere. And it is not what we do after, but what we can do before that matters. Teaching our children, in the early grades, about resolving conflicts is an urgently needed step in that direction. The C-A-R-E Project was developed to help young children learn how to take responsibility, how to show respect, how to be resourceful, how to get along with classmates and family members and how to value each other's differences.Games, puzzles, songs, posters, bulletin boards and kid-friendly activity pages focus on character building, conflict management and problem solving. Children will learn about managing anger, dealing with rejection, showing respect, being a friend and other important life skills. Activities designed to develop critical thinking and analytical skills incorporate multiple intelligences and appeal to a variety of learning styles and levels. Conflict And Responsibility Education is not only possible at the early elementary grades-it is necessary-and, it's fun!
