These selections give your child a unique exposure to two types of literature: contemporary and non-contemporary. The contemporary writings have been written by a diverse group of authors from different parts of the country. Since these authors come from varied backgrounds, a biographical sketch accompanies the selection of each contemporary writer. The non-contemporary writings are from authors of the past that your child might not encounter otherwise. A set of discussion questions follows each story or poem for a better understanding of the different works. Literature vocabulary is also introduced. Vocabulary words such as genres, stanzas, strophes, prose, dialogue, narration, figurative language, and alliteration are discussed. |
